There are different types of heat pumps. The one that is most common is the air sourced heat pump. A
Heat Pump works by drawing the heat from the outdoors and transfers that heat to the inside of your
home. The heat pump does not generate heat it transfers it inbetween the inside and the outside. This is
different from how a gas furnace works. A gas furnace generates heat by burning gas or propane. An
electric furnace generates heat kind of like a blow dryer for your hair, it blows the air over a hot element.
So these are entirely different ways to heat and cool your home.
At Shanks Heating and Cooling we are experts and know alot about heat pumps. Call us today at

The most common issue with heat pumps is lack of air flow. If your unit is not producing enough air from the
register usually a clogged or dirty air filter is the culprit! Without proper air flow the system will overheat and
shut down leaving you with no cool air in the summer or hot air in the winter. Be sure to change your filter
atleast once a month to avoid breakdowns.
According to Energy.gov a heat pump can “reduce your electricity use for heating by approximately 50%
compared to electric resistance heating such as furnaces and baseboard heaters.” That can calculate to a
lot of money monthly off of your utility bill! These units are energy efficient and good for the
environment. They work both in the winter and summer months, heating and cooling your home. That is
savings all year round!
