HVAC Repair in Kansas City, MO

Shanks Heating and Cooling has completed more than 2,400 jobs in Kansas City since 1999. We are based in Kearney, about 30 minutes north of downtown, and Kansas City is our largest service area outside our home town.

That is not a service area claim on a map. It is our job history.

What We See in Kansas City Homes

Kansas City's housing stock is split, and the work splits with it. North of the river, newer subdivisions in the 64155 and 64157 corridors are mostly 15 to 25 year old builder grade systems now reaching the age where compressors and heat exchangers start failing. A lot of our Northland work is first replacement.

Closer in, the older housing around 64108 and 64131 brings different problems: undersized or deteriorated ductwork, systems retrofitted into homes never designed for forced air, and equipment that was sized to match the old unit rather than the actual load.

That distinction matters when you get a quote. A replacement should start with a load calculation, not with reading the label on your old unit. Bigger is not better. An oversized system short cycles, never dehumidifies properly, and wears out early.

What Our Kansas City Customers Say

"I got a call from a human (not an AI) within minutes of searching for Air conditioning. Someone came out that same day and assessed the problem. My system of unknown age needed to be replaced. They came the next morning and installed the system, finishing 30 minutes sooner than promised. All 4 people I talked to and/or met from the company were very professional and kind. I believe I got a very fair price."

- Michele W., Kansas City

"Zane was super helpful in getting our AC fixed. He checked all the specs on making sure each part was working properly. Shanks sent out Zane same day before the holiday which was truly amazing. I'm grateful we can now enjoy our weekend in a cold house during this crazy KC heat wave."

- Mykala C., Kansas City

"My furnace fan started shaking this morning, (Saturday), and eventually quit turning. Homeowners in our Facebook group recommended Shanks so I gave them a call. They sent Sean to check it out a short time later. He diagnosed the fan motor had gone bad and had a replacement installed and running about an hour later. With temperatures constantly below zero this week I am so happy they were able to take care of this quickly."

- Jerry H., Kansas City

"We had a great experience with Shanks Heating & Cooling. Scotty came out the next morning after hearing our AC unit wasn't working to give us a quote on a new system which was extremely reasonable. We were pleased with the quote and the fact that he recommended us what we needed and didn't try to upsell us on a system that wasn't right for our home."

- Caleigh Y., Kansas City

Frequently Asked Questions

How much is a service call?

$89. You get a written, itemized price before any repair work begins, and we do not start until you approve it.

Do you charge more for nights and weekends?

Yes, after hours, weekend and holiday calls cost more than a standard weekday visit. Maintenance plan members receive a discount on that charge.

What warranty do you offer?

Repairs are guaranteed one year on parts and labor. Installations include a one year labor warranty, and we can extend labor coverage up to ten years. Equipment carries the manufacturer's warranty, which we register for you.

Should I repair or replace my system?

If your system is over 12 to 15 years old, needs repeated repairs, or uses R-22 refrigerant, replacement usually costs less over time. Under 10 years with a single failed part, repair is almost always the better value. We will show you the failed component and the test readings and give you both prices.

Are your technicians certified?

Yes. We have NATE certified technicians and we are an American Standard dealer.

Do you pull permits?

Yes. Every replacement that requires a permit gets one, and we schedule the inspection. Our permit history across the metro is public record.

What brands do you service?

All major brands, including Carrier, Trane, Lennox, Goodman, Rheem, York and American Standard.

Do you offer financing?

Yes, through Wells Fargo. Applying does not affect your credit score.
