Who we are
Shanks Heating and Cooling is a family owned HVAC company, in business since 1999. Our shop is at 104 S Jefferson Street in Kearney, Missouri, and our owner is Scotty Walker. Our legal entity is Red Hat Pro LLC, doing business as Shanks Heating and Cooling, which is the name you will see on a certificate of insurance.
We have completed more than 21,000 jobs since 1999. About half of them are right here in Kearney.

Missouri contractor license LIC-08-22-0063. Status: active.
We also hold a public permit history with the City of Kansas City and other metro municipalities running continuously from 2016 through 2025, covering both residential and commercial work. Permits are public record, so you can check that yourself.
Insured
We carry general liability and workers compensation insurance through State Auto, placed through Bukaty Companies. A current certificate of insurance is available on request, and we provide one routinely to general contractors and builders we work for.
This matters to you: if a technician damages your floor, your ceiling or a gas line, or is injured on your property, you should not be the one carrying that risk.

How we price
Service call: $89. That covers the trip and the diagnosis.
Before any repair work begins, you get a written, itemized price. Nothing starts until you approve it. There is no surprise at the end.
After hours, weekend and holiday calls cost more than a standard weekday visit. Maintenance plan members receive a discount on that charge.
We repair when repair is the better value. If your system has life left in it, we will tell you so and fix it. When replacement genuinely is the better decision, we will show you the failed component and the test readings, and give you both prices so you can decide for yourself.
Financing is available through Wells Fargo for jobs up to $25,000. Applying does not affect your credit score.
Guaranteed
Repairs: one year guarantee on parts and labor.
Installations: one year labor warranty included, and we can extend labor coverage up to ten years. Ask us for the options when you get your quote.
Equipment: covered by the manufacturer's warranty, which we register on your behalf so you are not left doing it.
Satisfaction: if something is not right, tell us and we will come back and make it right. You should not have to argue for that.
What we will not do
- We will not condemn a working system in order to sell you a new one.
- We will not start work without a written price you have approved.
- We will not use scare tactics about carbon monoxide or imminent failure unless there is a genuine safety issue, in which case we will show you exactly what we found.
- We will not size a replacement by reading the label on your old unit. A replacement starts with a load calculation for your actual home.
- We will not add a surprise trip charge or a fee you were not told about.
- We will not skip a permit to save a few dollars.
